Cascading Canyon

Cascading Canyon is an art installation inspired by the Grand Canyon. The work is made of paper and is completely hand folded and hand attached. More than 40,000 modular origami units of the Sonobe type form the surfaces, joined by built-in flaps and pockets. The installation is designed for a space of 8 by 4 by 8 feet and has three parts: a backdrop, a large rock and a smaller rock that can be used as a seat. Visitors walk through the setting and observe form, colour, light and shadow, recreating the feeling of moving through the canyon.

Moon Trace

Moon Trace is a light and shadow art installation. The form recalls the moon and integrates dragon motifs. The design links the Eastern full moon, a symbol of reunion, with the Western crescent moon, a symbol of hope. Moon Trace is made mainly of recycled steel and is divided into four modular parts for efficient assembly and disassembly. Built-in LED strips, projected light and intermittent smoke interact with polished surfaces. An automatic sensing spray system responds to the position of viewers, creating changing scenes.

Fountain of Life

Fountain of Life is a large scale public artwork installed in a restaurant at Istanbul Airport. The sculpture combines a hand carved travertine stone fountain with hand sculpted glass splashes. The stone fountain refers to the past, while the glass splashes, shaped to appear as if rising from the fountain, express the present moment. The stone fountain is 3000 mm high, and the glass forms range from 400 mm to 1000 mm in height. Polished stone and semi transparent glass change in appearance as light moves across the surfaces.

The Chakai

Tango Chirimen, soaked with images projected by projection mapping, was used as a psychological boundary. The extremely thin cloth fluctuates with the slightest movement of air, such as the movement of a person, and responds to the movement of the cloth interactively by means of sensors embedded in the cloth. The material used for the floor is a decorative plywood made by pasting rush grass, which would normally have been discarded, onto plywood because it was not long enough to fit into the tatami weaving machine.

Nesting Plan VII Formosan Wild Boar

Nesting Plan VII Formosan Wild Boar is a public art installation placed in a forest park in Hualien, Taiwan. The work is inspired by the nesting behavior of the Formosan wild boar, an animal that builds shelters from hay and branches and rests with its snout facing the entrance to stay alert. The structure is made of Taiwan cedar and Makino bamboo, assembled with careful joinery and shaped through digital structural design. Visitors can enter the nest-like space and sit on a curved bench that faces the opening, which encourages contact with the surrounding forest.

Free Air

Free Air is a metal sculpture installed in a public space in Ube City, Japan. The work takes the form of a bottle partly buried in the ground, a reference to discovery and to the industrial history of the site. The upper part is made of 316 stainless steel with a mirror finish, shaped by digital sheet metal forming. The lower part is cast in antique bronze. Rounded bubble forms and few connection points give the heavy metal a light appearance. The sculpture stands 300 centimeters high and invites visitors to approach and touch it.
